Bunker Death

Time of the event: 5.3.1984, Kannelmäki

The parents were waiting for their 12-year-old son Sami at home. The boy should have come home no later than nine in the evening, but he was nowhere to be seen. Dad decided to go looking. Sami was finally found around midnight. His father found him murdered in a bunker, only 300 meters from his home. Sami had died from numerous stab wounds.

The killer was a playmate of the victim. About a week had passed since the death, when an 11-12-year-old school friend admitted to the police that he had stabbed Sami. The boy was reportedly never able to tell the reason for his actions. When the killer's identity was revealed, informing the police about the matter stopped like a wall. For example, the means by which the crime was ultimately solved were never told in public.

It is clear, that the revelation of the perpetrator was a shock not only to the police, but also to the family of the killer. However, the murderer's mother had assisted both the police and the press in the case of the disappearance. Since the killer was under 15 years old, he was not criminally responsible for his actions. Due to the young age of the killer, the police also kept quiet about the details of the case. The killer's family reportedly moved out of the city because of the uproar over the matter.

Rumor has it that the boys got into an argument about the drums just before the murder.
